The North Platte River

Designated a Blue Ribbon trout fishery, the North Platte River is a utopia for fisher folks alike.  It is strictly a “flies and lures only” area with special slot limits that protect rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout. Highly valued for scenic float trips and wade fishing, the river peaks in optimal water levels during June and July.  There are over 12 public river access points (such as the popular Treasure Island access area) between Colorado and Saratoga.

The Encampment River

Flowing north from Colorado, the Encampment River is a faster, colder, and more technical freestone river. The river features wild rapids that only experts attempt, making it one of the best technical whitewater stretches in the state. Hikers can explore the 16-square-mile Encampment River Wilderness, which features stunning canyon trails.

The Hobo Hot Springs

A true Carbon County gem

Much of the history of Saratoga revolves around the world famous mineral hot springs and thermal waters. Native Americans would come and soak in the hot springs which were considered neutral territory. Eventually a bath house was built as more and more visitors began coming to the Platte Valley. The same waters that brought the first settlers into the fertile North Platte River Valley still attract tired travelers and natives alike.
